About the Department of Malayalam
The Department of Malayalam, NSS College, Nilamel is acclaimed as a centre of excellence for studies in Malayalam under the University of Kerala. The U G Progrramme of the Department was started in 1969 and PG in1995.The Department was upgraded as a research centre in 2005. There are seven full-time research guides in this Department and they have produced eight PhDs. All the regular teachers in the Department are PhD holders. Some of the senior faculty members are in the syndicate and Board of Studies of the University of Kerala. Workshops and seminars are conducted in the Department regularly as part of research activities. The Department has won ranks both for UG and PG examinations many times. The faculty has a rich store of publications to their credit. A half-yearly research journal named Malayala Sahithy -Sahithya Gaveshana Samahitham is being published by the department. It is a peer-reviewed journal. Prof. C Jayakumar has received awards from the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy and at the professional Drama Festival.
