About the Department of English
Ever since its inception in 1964, the department has endeared itself among the student community for its acuity, inclusiveness and accountability. The First Degree Programme in English Language and Literature was launched in 2001. The teaching and learning activities of the Department of English are carried out to make the students proficient in four-fold skills of language learning. The department capacitates the students in addressing the demands and issues of the times with humanitarian concerns. It also enables them to correlate literature with contemporary issues thereby inculcating a flair for aesthetic appreciation and expression. The faculty here aims to help students voice their altruistic concerns by honing their communication skills. The faculty is pledged to keep abreast of the latest trends in teaching methodologies by attending workshops and seminars. The department is keen on organizing remedial classes, communicative and spoken English classes and seminars for the academic excellence of students. The department offers ‘Journalism’ as a complementary subject and ‘Communicative Applications in English’ is offered as an open course to improve the soft skills of students. The alumni are also a source of strength for the Department.
