About the Department of Biochemistry
The Department was started in 1998, for providing undergraduate academic programmes. Biochemistry is an integrated subject fulfilling the need for basic as well as applied aspects of biology and prepares the students to become entrepreneur, teacher, researcher, or to fit into equipping themselves to the future needs along with the basic and applied knowledge of modern biology. Currently there are two faculty members and one non-teaching staff member in the department. Student’s project was undertaken in the areas of secondary metabolites, cancer, stress, enzymology, biomedical techniques etc. Department offers an Open course entitled “Life Style Diseases” to students of other Departments. The department has an excellent collection of text books and journals related to Biochemistry. Department is running a Friday clinic for blood grouping, analyzing biochemical parameters in blood (lipid profile, sugar) & Urine analysis.We set a ‘Health corner’ with BMI chart, a weighing machine and a height measuring scale to monitor the height and weights of our students and can calculate BMI values. We conduct field trips to central institutes to familiarize the various sophisticated instruments to students.
