About the Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry was started in 1964. BSc core course was started in the year 2014. The Department also offers complementary courses to Degree programmes in Bio-Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. The Department has a well-equipped laboratory. The teaching/learning process is made effective through audio-visual aids. The Department conducted a five-year UGC Funded Course of BSc Industrial chemistry (Triple Main-Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry and Mathematics) affiliated to University of Kerala from 2000 to2005. The course was of great appreciation from the student community and three batches were conducted in full intake capacity of each. Most of the admitted students pursued advanced studies.
The Department takes initiative in conducting seminars, Interdepartmental competitions and discussions regarding developments in chemical science. The industrial visits, study tours and orientation classes are also part of the educational programme. The Department coordinates Interactive sessions on various topics of Chemistry by bringing in experienced faculties from other leading institutions. Students are supported with remedial classes and special sessions for enhancing their academic standards. Faculties are assigned with the responsibility of monitoring student groups. Best performers are accorded with recognitions and accolades from time to time.
